The Screen Cinema (Plaza) Oxted, Surrey, UK
(Station Road, Old Oxted, Conservation Area)

Opened in 1929 with the film 'Desert Song'
It was originally a stadium cinema
The circle (balcony) was added in 1936
To do this the projection box had to be moved to it's present position
Originally seated 600, but this was reduced to 440 seats when the screen
was brought forward in front of the proscenium to accommodate the CinemaScope picture
At one time it was customary to split the week into three different showings
Sunday only
Monday to Wednesday
Thursday to Saturday
This practice was abandoned sometime in the 1970s and films were shown for a week or more
In 2002 the cinema was taken over by Mainline Pictures and renamed 'The Screen' in
common with the other cinemas on the circuit
A Christie Digital Projector was installed in 2007
In late 2007 the cinema was taken  over  by Everyman Media Group
