Empire Leicester Square
Started life as a Victorian Music Hall on 17th April 1884
It is said that the first moving pictures in Britain were shown in this theatre by the Lumiere Brothers
It was taken over by MGM, I do not know the date of this, and made into a 4000 seater cinema
In 1958 70mm was installed for the film "Ben Hur" (Philips DP70s)
All the Royal Film Performances were shown here until, in 1967, it was split in two, and the circle became a 1490 seater cinema, and the stalls became the Empire Ballroom
The Odeon Leicester Square, now being a larger cinema, took over the showing of the RFP
