35mm film bins circa 1933
Due to the use of highly inflammable nitrate film these bins had to be fireproof and self closing
The type shown, being hinged at the base, used the weight of the film to automatically close the bin
Other types looked like a row of small cupboards and used external springs to close the door
These springs were a nuisance as they had to be changed at regular intervals to keep them in proper
working order
It was not unknown for the fire inspector to check that the film bins were closing properly
Bad for you if he found that they were not
